where are you from?
i grew up in milton, massachusetts

did you go to school to study art?
no. my arts and crafts background began in seventh grade when i started sewing. i loved sewing. i took it every year in high school. i wanted to become a fashion designer. in college, i continued sewing as my creative outlet. i was really into making patchwork bags that i would sell or trade at shows and to friends.i studied history, which led to an interest in travelling. after i graduated, i went on an amazing adventure to india and nepal and since a sewing machine was not practical to carry, i turned to drawing with pens and pencils.  in nepal, i was inspired by the mandalas of buddhist thanka paintings. i love the practice of art as a meditation. over the years, i've continued drawing while travelling and the places i visited became my inspirations.  my drawing led to designing t-shirts and to painting, henna, batik and textile design.

how did you end up in st john?
jaime e, my fabulous roomate from college, was living here and told me to come on down! i was working as a planet lady in boston saving money to go to south america and she suggested i come to st john, work here and then jump on a boat to south america.  i lived here for a year and then went onto other adventures for a few years before returning for her wedding 5 years ago. i have been here since., with some travelling in between.
